Today is March 14th and  futures contract rollover day, when traders rollover to the next futures contract month which is June, 2014. The new symbol for the S&P 500 is ESM14, which is again the June contract.. The contracts expire on the third Friday of the said month but traders and hedge funds start switching contract symbols which then gives them a fresh new three months.
